Why are we living with war today? by Karen Kilroy

Friday, June 30, 2006

Because war is retro-cool. Just like slinkys and wham-o frisbees and romperroom romperstompers and hula hoops and Leave It to Beaver. War is as American as apple pie, baseball and Chevrolet.

Let's tie the yellow ribbons round the ol' oak tree and let Johnny come marching home again, hurrah, hurrah. Let's fly the grand ol' flag and persecute anyone who says that the emperor has no clothes.

This is American Life During Wartime. Just like mom and dad used to make.
